It's the first official day of Fall!
And it was a whopping 94 degrees outside (a record breaker).
So instead of picking pumpkins or going on hayrides, we opted to extend Summer for one more day.
And the fountains at Ballantrae seemed like the perfect way to do just that.
Many things have been broken around our house this week...
A ceiling fan, the microwave, a sunken porch foundation...and the grand finale, Beckett's finger.
For months, Chris and I have anticipated some type of injury from our rough and tough little boy.
He pushes the limit every chance he gets, and he's a typical clumsy 3-year-old.
Last weekend, Beckett's luck ran out when he took a fall that was a little nastier that we originally thought.
So now, he's stuck with a broken finger secured in a splint for 2 long weeks.
At first, the injury was fun for him to show off to his friends and his preschool class.
But the newness wore off fast, and over the past 24 hours I've battled with him to keep the injury wrapped up for longer periods of time.
We've also had a few funny conversations about "broken fingers."
Beckett - "Mommy, can we buy me a new finger at the store?"
Me - "No, Beckett. We'll just have to wait until your old finger heals."
So now we wait as Beckett heals! And hopefully, next time...my rambunctious 3-year-old will remember why we don't play rough in the house! :)
Five years ago, I wasn't sure what the next five years would hold. Now I know that these few short years have brought me a lifetime of memories, along with the pleasure of raising one unique little boy.
Happy Birthday to my amazing 5-year-old son!
There are so many things I love about you....
You have a heart of gold and a mind that goes 100 miles an hour.
You are a good friend to your pals, an awesome big brother and a happy soul all around.
You love all things science related. Outer space in particular, but you also have a thirst to know HOW things work. Construction projects, bridges, garbage trucks. You love them all...I think mostly because you love studying them and their complexity.
You are a rule follower...even when no one is looking.
I'm pretty sure you're going to grow up to be an engineer or a police officer (the whole rule follower thing). But, you say you want to grow up to be a garbage man or an astronaut.
You are a hard worker. While you've struggled with speech clarity for years, you improve everyday and it's all because of your hard work.
You love babies! And it's adorably sweet watching you with them.
Animals, the pool and the garbage truck are three of your favorite things!
You can build monstrosities out of blocks and Lego's. Creations that even I hate to take apart to put away sometimes.
You are your own person and watching you grow each day has been a blessing.
We love you Cooper! Happy 5th Birthday buddy!
Beckett has BEGGED to go to preschool for an entire year. He's patiently tolerated being dragged to and from Cooper's preschool daily, asking each time if he can stay too.
Today he finally got his chance! And he was glowing with excitement!
He marched into Ms. Lisa's classroom ready to go.
I always thought he just talked a tough game. When the time came, he would cry and beg me not to leave. Um, not the case. He gave me a quick hug.
And off he went to join his new friends.

Now for my newest favorite sequence ....
Last weekend at Wagon Trails, Cooper was the first one to come across a baby camel. And he bravely stood below it to have his picture taken.
It took a minute for the camel to realize he was there.
And then that camel warmed right up to our little animal lover, giving him a surprise kiss on the neck.
I was stunned. And sort of waited a minute for him to get upset. But thankfully, he wasn't phased...
But since then, he has repeatedly told me that camels have funny tongues. LOL!
