I love having two boys! I get to see all of their cutest clothes on repeat - passed down from Cooper to Beckett.
One of the smallest pleasures that gives me the biggest thrill - is stumbling across a picture of Cooper wearing something that's in Beckett's closet right now. Case and point - these red Adidas shorts that both kids got a lot of good out of.

Beckett gets dragged to a lot of places. He gets dragged to Cooper's preschool. He gets dragged to the bus stop. He gets dragged to Cooper's speech therapy once a week. And he's always such a good sport about it.
Every now and then - Beckett also gets dragged places that I wouldn't expect him to enjoy, but Cooper can't get enough of. Places like snow sledding. Beckett's just not quite big enough to enjoy zipping down the hill like Cooper.
I'm sure that will all change soon enough.
But for now, I am enjoying the extra one-on-one time with him at all the places he gets dragged to. Places like the bus stop. Singing in the car on the way to Coop's school. And most of all - hanging out with Becks at the bottom of the sledding hill - watching him explore the snow and screaming with delight as Cooper races by again and again.
They grow up too fast. Sometimes it's nice to just sit back and watch.
It's been 9 days since Cooper had his tonsils and adenoids removed. He spent most of last week on the couch, but had a big comeback Friday - asking to go to school and finally eating something with some substance. A gourmet spaghetti dinner (his fav).
There have certainly been some difficult moments - the pain medicine was ridiculously hard to get into a three-year-old. And we had to do it every four hours. Cooper could not be reasoned with. He kicked, screamed, spat and fought that medicine every step of the way. Stubborn. Stubborn. Stubborn. He finally finished the prescription and now we are using just regular Tylenol. Thank God.
Perhaps the most alarming part of the recovery was hearing Cooper talk post-surgery. His speech tumbled so far backward - that at one point - he was grunting to show us what he wanted. Grunting! OMG - he hasn't done that since he was two-years-old.
But things improved over the weekend. As the pain subsided, Cooper's speech returned - with a bit more clarity. Score. That, after all, was the goal of the surgery. Now we are watching and waiting to see if his clarity continues to improve. I am optimistic.
I've been trying to find a preschool for Becks next year. The kid needs to interact with someone other than his brother. The preschool at our Church is great - but they won't enroll him until January 2010 when he's 2.6. I was hoping to find something for him starting in September - just to get him out and about a few days a week.
After a lot of searching, I stumbled across a Church preschool right down the road.
Here is what's in store for Beckett's age group there...
PARENTS and TWOS CLASS Two year olds and a parent or caregiver come together to each class. The class is an excellent experience for the children, but the parent or caregiver is the person enrolled in the class. Parents who attend understand that the teacher will offer them coaching, guidance and developmental information about two year olds and the parenting skills that best meet their needs. A wonderful way to give your 2 year old focused time.
Lucky Chris! He gets to enroll in preschool three days a week. Shockingly, he passed on this option.
So these two may be stuck with each other on their own until January after all.
Cooper's home - minus one set of tonsils and adenoids. Overall - the surgery went well. The surgeon said his tonsils were bigger than expected, but his adenoids weren't as bad as he anticipated.
I was glad we spent the night at Children's because the nurses did an amazing job getting painkillers into a resistant three-year-old and giving us little goals with eating and drinking. Now we are home and on our own. As expected, Coop's feeling pretty lousy. Sleeping lots. Not too interested in eating or drinking. He's OVER me approaching him with teaspoons full of medicine. Negotiating beverages with him has turned into my hourly goal. I pretty much have to find something he wants (like a train or a car or a DVD), then get him to take three sips of juice or pop before I give it to him. He is enjoying lots of cherry and grape popsicles though. And he did have ice cream for dinner tonight along with a side of jello. This was Beckett's face at the dinner table when he realized Cooper was eating ice cream and he was eating vegetable soup. B.S. was definitely on the tip of his tongue (just kidding) - but he was confused.
So for now - Cooper is mostly hanging out on the couch with an arsenal of cold treats and DVD's. A lot of people have told me that "kids bounce back fast" and I hope that rings true for him!
